April 15th, 2014: DEWA is preparing to deploy infrastructure and charging stations for electric vehicle in support of the Smart Dubai initiative, according to said Saeed Ali Tayer, Managing Director and CEO.

“Dewa ( Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) will start, of course, with purchasing electric vehicles and our target is initially 100 vehicles maybe for the next two years,” Mr Al Tayer said.

No fully electric cars are on sale in showroom's in Dubai.

Dewa is also pushing ahead with plans for a 100-megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant in Dubai, capable of producing energy from sunlight.
